Clinical content (SFI) is the specialized content element forming the backbone of the development of an electronic health record (EHR). The work with SFI is a central part of the Capital Region of Denmark’s EHR-initiative. On this page you can read more about the current SFI-activities in the Capital Region of Denmark and find more information about the SFI-material, which has been produced in the Capital Region of Denmark.
What is the SFI-material?
The original SFI-material consists of a sizeable collection of MS Word-documents, primarily describing the clinical needs and wishes for documentation in a structured, schematic way. The material is structured in MS Word-schemas for general clinical content, MS Word-schemas for interdisciplinary content and MS Word-schemas for specialized clinical content.
Originally the SFI-material was produced in order to obtain a general description and standardization of the clinical content for an EHR for the Capital Region of Denmark. From 2004 to 2007 the project SFI-Hovedstaden, through the involvement of a considerable amount of clinicians, produced a larger number of standardized SFI-based documents for 2 general areas, 31 clinical specialisations and 9 interdisciplinary areas.
In the Capital Region of Denmark we have decided to publish this original SFI-material and make it accessible for all who might have an interest in studying or otherwise make use of the SFI-material. Please notice, however, that the material has not been translated and is therefore only available in its original language of production: Danish.
Read more about how to download the SFI-material at the bottom of this page.
On-going SFI-activities
In the Capital Region we continuously work with maintaining, developing and operationalizing the SFI-material. Currently we work with the utilisation of the material through the development and production of electronic registration- and display formulas, which can be integrated in the OPUS-Arbejdsplads (≈ OPUS-work station) – a documentation portal built on the Region’s patient administrative system.

The SFI-material that has been published covers SFI-documentation for 31 clinical specialisations. The material is accessible in its original format – MS Word-based schemas. As this is a first version of the SFI-material, please note that upon the finalization of the SFI-material in 2007 region-wide consensus on the content of the material was obtained. However, eventual succeeding changes in the clinical work processes have not been incorporated in the SFI-material which is presently available.
PLEASE NOTE: Eventual use of the SFI-material will be on your own responsibility as well as copyrights must be respected.
If you intend to use the Capital Region’s SFI-material we kindly ask you to notify us about the purpose and to which extent the use of the material is intended.
Furthermore, we kindly request that The Capital Region of Denmark – SFI is stated as the source of reference in case you choose to use the Capital Region of Denmark’s SFI-material for a given purpose.
We are also very interested in being informed of your experiences with using with the SFI-material.
Please contact SFI coordinator Birgitte Seierøe Pedersen or Troels Thomsen if you wish to share information regarding the use of the SFI-material.
