Great respect for cultural differences

Junior house officer Haji Azizi, Diagnostic Radiological Department, Herlev Hospital, employed in an entry position since January 1, 2008, educated in Afghanistan.
Haji Aziz

Why did you choose exactly this job and this specialty?

I’ve been interested in radiology since I started my education. It is my goal to become a radiologist in the future. Moreover, I like working in teams. The radiology department cooperates broadly with other departments at the hospital.

What favorable aspects about your hospital and department would you point to if you were to tell about it to a new colleague?

First, there is a good working and training environment where you are affiliated with a team for a certain period. Here you can learn from and be supervised by a medical specialist. There is ample opportunity for independent work and participation in various investigations conducted at other hospitals.

Secondly, my medical colleagues work together with other health care professionals really well. The radiological department at Herlev Hospital shows great respect and acceptance of other cultures. Approx. 40-50 percent of the doctors have non-Danish ethnic origins. I sense that my colleagues in the department find it interesting to get to know other cultures. For instance, they will say, ”We have acquired an understanding of different cultural backgrounds at a workplace. At private get-togethers we can spread the word that Polish doctors can be as competent as Danish doctors.”
