Herlev Hospital

Herlev Hospital serves as district hospital for the citizens of nine municipalities in the capital area. The hospital is in charge of a number of specialized functions for an even bigger population and has an emergency department.

Herlev Hospital serves as district hospital for 425,000 citizens in the capital area.

Herlev Hospital is one of the biggest in Denmark with approx. 4,000 employees and 26 departments.


A specialized hospital with a cancer center
The hospital gathers a number of surgical specialties, gynecological-obstetric functions, and pediatrics, including a neonatal function.

Within certain specialties the hospital serves 700,000 citizens in the entire Capital Region of Denmark. This applies to urology, plastic surgery, mamma surgery, hematology, an interdisciplinary pain center as well as a number of specialized functions within oncology, surgery, orthopedic surgery, medical gastroenterology, and endocrinology.

Herlev Hospital has a strong profile in the cancer area, being one of the country’s six cancer centers. In the cancer area Herlev Hospital also treats citizens outside the Capital Region of Denmark.

Shared emergency department
The hospital is going to have one shared emergency department, which will serve as the place of admission for acute patients. These patients will have direct access to the necessary specialists at the hospital. Within surgery and orthopedic surgery the hospital is in charge of acute and elective functions.
