Hillerød Hospital is a district hospital for 310,000 citizens in Northern Zealand and is in charge of the shared emergency department in the area. Hillerød Hospital is the biggest workplace in Northern Zealand with approx. 4,000 employees. In regard to research the hospital is a part of Copenhagen University Hospital.

A specialized hospital and emergency department
Hillerød Hospital is in charge of a shared emergency department and a number of specialties for the entire area. This includes acute and elective surgery, woman-child functions, neurology, oncology, palliative treatment, and oto-rhino-laryngology.

Hillerød Hospital also treats medical patients from the local community.

Finally, the hospital is home to elective out-of-house functions within urology (from Herlev Hospital) and eye diseases (from Glostrup Hospital) as well as a satellite function for invasive cardiology (from Gentofte Hospital).

Hillerød Hospital also comprises the clinics at Hørsholm Hospital, which are primarily responsible for planned operations.
