Rigshospitalet is a specialized hospital for the entire 1.6 million citizens of the region. Within a few chosen specialties Rigshospitalet serves as a hospital for the entire country.
Rigshospitalet

Rigshospitalet has more than 100 highly specialized departments and functions gathered under one roof. The hospital enjoys a special status, being in charge of many functions for the entire country, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands.

Rigshospitalet is a part of Copenhagen University Hospital and has a high research activity at an international level. This means that the treatment forms are constantly developed and improved.

A specialized hospital for the entire country
Rigshospitalet gathers a number of specialties for the region and for the entire country, for instance organ transplantation and cancer treatment. Rigshospitalet is also in charge of a special interdisciplinary function for rare disabilities.

Furthermore, Rigshospitalet is in charge of several forms of treatment of citizens in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. This includes pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, oto-rhino-laryngology, and clinical oncology.

A highly specialized trauma center
Rigshospitalet has a shared emergency department with a highly specialized trauma center function. The region’s trauma center admits seriously injured and critically ill patients who require a special effort and on-site co-operation among many diagnostic and clinical specialties. For this reason there is always a vast range of medical specialists on duty.
