The Regional Growth and Development Strategy sets the framework

Climate adaptation is an initiative within the Regional Growth and Development Strategy of the Capital Region of Denmark. Targeted investments in this area will contribute to reaching the Capital Region's goal of being internationally recognised as climate-prepared by 2025.

The strategy has been followed up by an action plan to ensure broad regional cooperation in realising the strategy within the next few years.

Climate Adaptation Living Lab for Greater Copenhagen (CALL Copenhagen) is one of ten flagship projects in the action plan which the Capital Region has decided to bring into special focus in 2017 and 2018.

Partnerships for climate adaptation

In cooperation with municipalities, utility companies, organisations and knowledge institutions, the Capital Region of Denmark has initiated and supported a number of initiatives on prevention, emergency management, political dialogue and climate adaptation as a growth driver. These projects all contribute to reaching the goal of becoming a climate-prepared region by 2025.

Some of these initiatives are:

Incentivising the development and implementation of intelligent and innovative climate adaptation solutions on both a national and an international scale.

  • The Future of the Northern Coast (Nordkystens Fremtid):
Achieving an integrated and comprehensive coastal protection across three municipalities in the Northern region of Zealand.

  • Storm Surges and Sea Level Rise (Stormflod og Havvandsstigninger):
Illuminating the economic costs of regional storm surges and sea level rise, and of the potential for improved coastal and flood protection.

  • Emergency Management (Robust Beredskab):
Enhancing emergency management measures to reduce risks and prevent damages in cases of flooding.

  • Transboundary water (Vand på Tværs):
Developing a better understanding and coordination of water across administrative boundaries between different stakeholders.
