The project is examining the possibility of developing a system that can perform automatic continuous monitoring and recording of the progression of internal examinations of the colon
(endoscopy). A colonoscope can be used to take tissue samples from the mucous membrane for examination under a microscope
Large regional screening studies show a great potential for improved survival if the early signs of cancer can be identified, particularly cancer of the colon and the rectum. There are no available tools to measure the quality of endoscopic examinations of the colon on the market today. Simulation environment – colonoscopy setup
This is a public-private innovation partnership. The project includes the company Simonsen and Weel A/S, which among other things supplies equipment to the healthcare sector, and clinical users from Rigshospitalet and the Centre for Clinical Education, i.e. experts, doctors seeking training and future endoscopy nurses.
- The intention is for the results of the project to be further developed into an actual product (hardware + software) for the commercial market.
- It is estimated that 50–100 Danish workplaces could benefit from a similar solution.
- The potential world market in this field is estimated at 100 to 200 times that of Denmark.
