Our Healthy Community is a research-based intervention project that aims to develop and test a new and sustainable model for promoting healthy living and preventing lifestyle-related diseases in Danish municipalities. The goal of the project is to create positive and measurable changes in the health and wellbeing of citizens.
Target health topics and interventions are not pre-determined. The project develops, implements and evaluates health promotion interventions through co-creation processes with citizens, public institutions, private enterprises, non-governmental organisations and voluntary associations operating at municipal and local community levels.
At municipality level, interventions will mainly be structural in nature and will involve partnerships of professional organisations operating at a national or municipality-wide level. At local community level, interventions will emphasise the strengths of social relations in health promotion and will involve formal and informal networks of residents living in targeted residential areas as well as professional stakeholders operating there.
The model will be adaptable to conditions and circumstances of other municipalities in Denmark and will therefore be applicable country-wide. It will prescribe effective and efficient concepts, approaches, processes, methods and tools. The model will provide a sound basis for prioritizing and optimising the use of available resources on health matters of concern to politicians of local governments and public sector administrators.
Our Healthy Community is organised as an innovative partnership between four municipalities, two regions and three research institutions.
