The following scenario is fictive, but realistic.
A four-year-old boy has received a blow to the head at his daycare center and may have concussion. A child care worker rings to the helpline for guidance. The nurse asks for information about the incident and the boy’s condition. She concludes that there is no need to send an ambulance, but recommends that the boy should be checked by a physician at the local hospital emergency department. The nurse informs the emergency department that the boy will shortly be arriving, whilst the boy’s father drives him to the hospital.

Head injuries can be serious. Helpline 1813 is staffed 24 hours a day, and you will always speak to an experienced nurse who is specially trained to give advice on the phone. The nurse can inform the hospital emergency department that the boy is on his way, and advise the boy’s father on where there will be the shortest waiting times.
