The largest health provider in Denmark

(02:41 min.)

The video is about how public health is the Region's largest task. With more than 12,000 beds, the Region is Denmark's largest health service; a health service the Region is constantly striving to improve. Among other things by gathering and expanding treatment at large, highly specialised hospitals.

With 6-7 minute response times, the Capital Region of Denmark has Denmark’s quickest ambulance service.

The Region's emergency call centre in Ballerup manages all acute responses and other transport for patients in the region.

Former head of the emergency medical services, Freddy Lippert, says that experienced physicians, nurses and paramedics are ready 24/7 to help people with acute diseases or injury.
Patients are taken to one of the Region's five emergency admissions departments in Hvidovre, Herlev and Bispebjerg, Hillerød or Bornholm.

If the situation is exceptionally serious, experts are ready in the Trauma Centre at Copenhagen University Hospital – Rigshospitalet.

If you become ill outside your general practitioner’s opening hours, you can dial 1813 for the medical helpline. It is manned with experienced doctors and nurses 24 hours a day. There is healthcare advice or patients can be referred to an emergency admissions department or emergency department if it is something that needs immediate attention.

The personnel on the 1813 medical helpline work side by side with the 112 emergency services.

However, general practitioners are ready for calls in normal consultation hours. General practitioners are well prepared to deal of minor injuries.

10% of the visitors to a general practitioner are referred for treatment at a hospital. General practitioners also ensure that patients are referred if they need counselling for matters of the soul rather than the body.

If a matter is urgent, there is an emergency service doctor or psychiatric emergency admissions departments.

Adolescents or children can be linked to the special OPUS teams for help to return to a normal life.
