Your general practitioner (GP)

If you are registered with a doctor in Denmark, he or she can help you with illness and minor injuries from 8 A.M– 4 P.M. Your doctor can also provide a referral for further treatment or examination.

Making an appointment

You can make an appointment for an examination or personal consultation with your doctor. Your doctor can also provide medical care, advice, guidance and prescription renewals over the phone.  For simple, non-urgent matters, you can contact your doctor by email. Home visits by your doctor are possible in exceptional circumstances.

General practitioners in Denmark have an emergency number that allows you to contact a doctor between 8 A.M. and 4 P.M.

Treatment or referral

After diagnosing your illness or injury, the doctor can start treatment or refer you to specialists, a hospital or other forms of treatment.

Outside your doctor's opening hours

In the event of serious illness or injury after hours (4 P.M.-8 A.M. on weekdays, and at weekends), call 1813.

Prescription renewal through 1813 is limited to essential medication only. Other prescriptions should be renewed through your own doctor.

Always call 1-1-2 in the event of life-threatening illness or injury.
