The Innovation Fund Denmark
The Innovation Fund Denmark supports the development of knowledge and technology that strengthen research and innovative solutions, including in the health sector. The Innovation Fund Denmark allocates public resources to large-scale projects focused on research, development, and/or commercialization. Researchers can apply for funding to support the development of new products, processes, or the advancement of research competencies. The grant range is DKK 3-30 million.
The InnoExplorer Programme
The InnoExplorer programme has three annual deadlines. Within the Capital Region of Denmark, a dedicated application process is in place for this programme. Involvement of the Strategic Research Support and Outreach team is mandatory for all InnoExplorer applications. The team will provide feedback on your project idea and your presentation, guide you through the application process and help tailor your pitch to Innovations Fund Denmark's expectations.

Independent Research Fund Denmark
The Independent Research Fund Denmark supports original research ideas with the potential to significantly improve society. Each year, the fund allocates over DKK 1 billion to groundbreaking research across all major scientific disciplines.
TrygFonden
TrygFonden funds projects within the core areas of safety, health, and well-being. In the health sector, grants are awarded to projects aligned with specific thematic areas outlined on their website. Grant range: DKK 1–5 million.
Lundbeck Foundation
The Lundbeck Foundation distributes approximately DKK 500 million annually to health science research in Denmark. With a strong focus on brain research, the foundation supports a range of thematic programmes aimed at advancing Denmark’s position as a global leader in neuroscience.
Novo Nordisk Foundation
The Novo Nordisk Foundation offers funding through open calls in biomedicine, general medicine, nursing research, biotechnology, and early-stage innovation. The foundation also awards thematic grants, primarily within biomedicine and biotechnology.
The Danish Heart Foundation
Each year, the Danish Heart Foundation allocates around DKK 30 million to support research in cardiovascular diseases. In addition to research grants, the foundation also funds professional and scientific societies.
The Danish Cancer Society
The Danish Cancer Society provides funding for cancer research conducted at Danish universities, hospitals, and its own research center. Danish researchers temporarily based abroad may also apply for support.
The Danish National Research Foundation
An independent fund, the Danish National Research Foundation strengthens Danish research across all disciplines. It operates two main funding instruments:
- Centers of Excellence – large, flexible grants with a duration of up to 10 years
- Niels Bohr Professorships – designed to attract world-leading researchers to Danish institutions.
BII
BII is an international life science incubator that helps bring research-based innovations to market. It supports projects in three focus areas: therapeutics, bioindustrials, and health tech.
Programmes: BII offers three programmes tailored to different stages of research and commercialization. The appropriate programme depends on your project’s maturity and whether a company has been established.
Funding range: DKK 4–18 million, provided either as a grant or a convertible loan, depending on the programme.
