General Practitioners (GP)

You can consult your GP when you are ill or have suffered a minor injury. Your GP can refer you to further treatment or an examination.

Physical examinations, consultation, tele-consultations, house calls

You can make an appointment for an examination or for a personal consultation with your GP. Your GP also offers tele-consultations if you need to renew your prescription, etc. In special circumstances, your GP may even pay a house call.

Your GP

Your GP’s name, address and telephone number is printed on your health card (sundhedskort).

Treatment or referral

After diagnosing your illness or injury, your GP can start you up in treatment or refer you to a specialist, a hospital or another form of treatment.

Your GP can assist you when you:
  • are suffering from a minor ailment
  • are taken ill acutely
  • suffer minor injuries
  • need to renew your prescription
  • need a medical certificate

Communicating online

Via your GP’s web site (see Find behandler), you can book appointments, renew your prescription and send your GP an email.

Your GP’s surgery opening hours

Your GP’s normal surgery hours are during the day. Once a week, your GP is open during the late afternoon. In the event of acute illness, you can book a consultation with your GP on the same day.

Emergency Helpline 1813

Have you suffered an injury, or have you suddenly become ill when the local physician is closed? Then dial 1813 if you need help.
Can it wait? Then call your own or a local GP to make an appointment, get repeat prescriptions, etc.
The helpline 1813 is open 24/7.
For life-threatening situations call 1-1-2.

Changing your GP

If you want to change to a new GP, contact your local municipality or fill in the appropriate form on www.borger.dk or your local municipality’s website.
