Psychiatry and somatics will become one after the New Year

The merger of psychiatry and somatics has no practical significance for you as a patient at one of the Region’s psychiatric centres. You still need to go where you usually do.

From 1 January 2026, psychiatry will be organisationally anchored in the Region’s acute hospitals and will no longer be an independent hospital with its own management. This change should, over time, benefit patients, as the merger provides a stronger common foundation for treating patients with both physical and mental illnesses.

What does this mean for you, as a patient, here and now?

You go to the same place as before

As a patient in psychiatric treatment, you will not notice specific changes right away. You will still go for assessment and treatment at the same psychiatric centres as now. In other words, where you go remains unchanged, but on outdoorsigns, appointment letters, and patient information, you will now see the blue hospital logo instead of psychiatry’s current green one.
