New mobile laboratories ready to tackle contaminated groundwater

​Two new mobile laboratories enable on-site testing of contaminated soil and groundwater, providing more accurate test results whilst also saving the Region both time and money by avoiding costly tests abroad.

Operation waiting times must be reduced further

​Politicians in the Capital Region of Denmark are allocating additional funding over the next three years to reduce waiting times for emergency surgery, including for broken hips and gallbladders. Under the 2026 Budget Agreement, DKK 10.2 million has been allocated for 2026 and DKK 15.3 million annually for the next two years.​

The Capital Region of Denmark has clarified the amount of patients doctors will have in 2026

Today, all GPs in the Capital Region of Denmark will receive information about the minimum number of patients their practice should have in 2026. The Capital Region of Denmark currently has excellent doctor coverage, and many doctors already have more patients than the new minimum quotas suggest. No patients will be required to change doctors as a result of the new patient quotas. ​​​​​​​​​

​An agreement among six parties names Lars Gaardhøj as the Regional Council chairman for the country’s new and largest region, the Region of Eastern Denmark. The Constitution Agreement is supported by the Social Democrats, the Conservative People’s Party, the Liberal Party, the Red-Green Alliance, the Danish Social Liberal Party, and the Moderates, which account for 32 of the new Regional Council’s 47 members.

​From Monday 20 October, citizens in the target group for vaccinations will be able to visit the Capital Region of Denmark’s nine vaccination clinics without an appointment and get vaccinated against influenza and Covid-19.

For those with more complex late complications, a clear pathway to hospital treatment must be established.​

The budget at Mary Elizabeth's Hospital has been increased by DKK 795 million

​In the Capital Region of Denmark’s budget for 2026 and beyond, DKK 795 million has been set aside for expected budget challenges at Mary Elizabeth’s Hospital - the new hospital for children, adolescents and pregnant women at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. At the same time, the move-in date has been postponed by six months to the end of 2027.​

Waiting times for scheduled operations plummet

​After several years of long waiting times for scheduled operations in the Capital Region of Denmark, the trend has finally been reversed. In April 2025, the average waiting time was reduced to 43 days, compared to 76 days in April 2022.

Hard-of-hearing patients require a modern setting and relocation to Glostrup

​On Tuesday, the Regional Council approved a proposal to move hard-of-hearing patients from Bispebjerg Hospital to Rigshospitalet Glostrup. The matter has been sent for consultation.​

Knee and hip surgeries shall be centralised and streamlined

​The Capital Region of Denmark will centralise planned knee and hip surgeries in the Centre for Elective Orthopaedic Surgery at Gentofte Hospital. The surgeon will follow the patient to Gentofte and operate together with experienced teams​.

The Capital Region of Denmark can invest in weapons

Politicians in the Capital Region of Denmark decided this evening that the Region can invest in European companies that manufacture weapons. However, investments may only be made in companies that comply with the UN conventions adopted by Denmark, which means that the Region is still not allowed to invest in companies that manufacture nuclear weapons or parts for them, for example.

​Scanning with minimal radiation dose and maximum image quality. The scanner of the future, invented by Danish researchers, is on its way to Rigshospitalet following a multi-million DKK donation from the A.P. Møller Foundation.​

Concerted action to improve safety during Copenhagen’s Christmas nightlife

Friday 1 November marks the release of Christmas beer in Denmark (J Day) and, as a safety measure, a mobile treatment centre will open at City Hall Square in Copenhagen. The opening of the centre coincides with the deployment of more police officers and municipal staff on the streets to help ensure a safe environment for Copenhagen’s festive citizenry.​​

The flu vaccine season starts today

​The flu vaccine season starts today with vaccination stations opening in every municipality in the Capital Region of Denmark. From 1 October, the Capital Region of Denmark's vaccination stations will be offering vaccination against influenza and Covid-19 to citizens over the age of 64 and other vulnerable citizens.

Response to the Healthcare Structure Commission Crazy to split the Capital Region of Denmark into several regions

​Hospitals in Greater Copenhagen are located close together, and dividing the current Capital Region of Denmark would mean that patients would have to be transferred between the new, smaller care regions. This would increase administration and competition for staff and medical specialities.

​Last autumn, the Danish Parliament decided that children and adolescents should receive more support when a parent or sibling is hospitalized with a life-threatening or serious chronic illness. A new evaluation of the 72-hour extended treatment responsibility for hospitals shows that opinions across sectors generally consider it meaningful for hospitals to retain responsibility for treatment for 72 hours after patients have been discharged to municipal nursing care.

Vaccinations close to where people live: Citizens can get a vaccination at their GP, your pharmacy or at a vaccination centre
