International internship for ambulance care students

​The Emergency Medical Service in the Capital Region of Denmark offers an international internship program for ambulance care students who have reached the final part of their education in cooperation with other emergency medical services around the world. ​​

​The program offers a unique opportunity for the students to gain international work experience and for other countries' emergency medical services to learn from our experience. It is designed to enhance the professional and personal development of the students, providing a deeper understanding of other cultures and enhancing international cooperation.​

The program also aims to help students in getting to know their own profession in a different context, to discover tools used in other countries, to understand international norms and practices different from the Danish, to actively participate in partner institutions professional life and to develop and reflect on intercultural skills.​

​Our goal is to create a platform where students and host organizations can:

  • Develop their professional skills in an international context.
  • Gain insight into global job markets and business practices.
  • Expand their professional network.
  • Improve their language skills and intercultural competencies.
  • Prepare for the future job market and facilitate knowledge exchange.

Program Structure Duration: 

The internship lasts for a minimum of 30 days.​


Destinations: USA and Scotland (other countries will follow)

Sector: The internships are specifically tailored for ambulance care providers and related areas within emergency medicine and pre-hospital treatment.


  • ​The Emergency Medical Service in the Capital Region of Denmark covers the students' salaries, travel expenses and insurance
  • The students must arrange their own travel insurance to cover their free time
  • The host organization does not pay salaries or housing costs but offers to enroll the students in their training and facilitate the stay

By participating in our program, host organizations gain access to:

  • Opportunities for exchange visits
  • The chance to promote cultural diversity in the workplace
  • Strengthened relationships with educational institutions and future talents

The students must be enrolled in the ambulance care program and have completed the previous parts of their education. It is required that the student can show sufficient English skills, or other local language of the host country, equivalent to level B2.

Application Process 
Interested students must submit an application, CV and a motivational letter. Host organizations will then receive the most suitable candidates for review. ​

​Information prior to the internship:

Specific requirements for the internship (documents, vaccination, work clothing etc.)
Working hours (our students are supposed to work about 6 hours every day but we will adjust to the host organisation’s needs. 
An arrivalplan for the student (where, when, whom to look for etc.)
A signed agreement and internship certificate once our students arrive.
A contactperson at the internship institution for our students to reach out to (preferably someone speaking English​
