Before the winner was announced April 9th 2014, seven teams entered the competion: Lundgaard & Tranberg, BIG, Herzog & de Meuron, schmidt hammer lassen, SCAU, C F Møller and Henning Larsen Architects.

New North Zealand Hospital is one of six hospitals in the Capital Region that are built with funding from the National Quality Fund set up jointly by the Danish government and the Capital Region.

A sum of DKK 3.8 billion has been set aside for New North Zealand Hospital, which will have a floor area of about 128,000 square metres and be located close to the Overdrevsvejen road south of Hillerød. The central and regional authorities have formulated a number of standards for the hospital that the design teams are required to meet.

At the current North Zealand Hospital, the preliminary work has begun in the form of analyses, studies and the testing of new concepts in areas such as logistics, work procedures and organisation.

The new hospital will open its doors to the first patients in the autumn of 2020.
