Helle Pappot is a senior consultant at the Department of Oncology, Copenhagen University Hospital – Rigshospitalet, and Professor of Clinical Oncology at the University of Copenhagen, with a particular focus on patient involvement and Patient-Reported Outcomes (PRO). Her career spans extensive clinical practice and research, bridging close patient contact with the translation of new knowledge into everyday care.
Her research uses both qualitative and quantitative methods and includes quality-of-life research, PRO measurement, and the implementation of digital health solutions in cancer care. Her primary focus is adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer, including their quality of life, psychosocial needs, and improved continuity across the cancer trajectory and follow-up.
She leads Rigshospitalet’s Kræftværket research group and co-developed the UngeKræfter app with young people with cancer through a co-creation process; the solution is now implemented nationally in Denmark. She is also involved in several ongoing national and international research projects within AYA oncology.
Helle Pappot is the founder and leader of NAYAcareDK, a national research network about - and with - young adults with cancer, and she actively contributes to international PRO collaborations, including the EORTC Quality of Life Group. She collaborates with the National Cancer Institute (USA) and with PRO researchers and networks in Austria, England, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Poland. Furthermore, she serves as Deputy Chair of the DCCC’s Scientific Committee and as Chair of Medical Research Ethics Committee 1.
