I hold a degree in anthropology from the University of Copenhagen. My methodological expertise lies primarily within ethnographic and qualitative research. I also have experience with user involvement, evaluation, and communication. My main research interests include life stories and narratives, patient experiences, care, existential dilemmas, women’s reproductive health, and abortion. 

I am currently working on the PhD project Silenced narratives? An ethnography of perceptions, practices and experiences linked to induced abortion in Denmark. Approximately 15,000 women in Denmark undergo an induced abortion each year. However, both in society and in research, abortion has largely been surrounded by silence since it was legalized in Denmark in 1973. 

The 50th anniversary of legal abortion and an increased international focus on reproductive rights have, however, prompted renewed public debate on the subject. In a Danish context, there is still a lack of research based knowledge about the societal, cultural, and social aspects of induced abortion, women’s experiences of undergoing an abortion, and the ethical and moral dimensions of abortion. 

This research project seeks to contribute to addressing this knowledge gap by examining societal understandings of abortion, how abortion is carried out in practice, and women’s experiences of abortion. The project is qualitative and is based on an exploration of narratives as they emerge in policy documents and the media, in abortion care practices within the healthcare system, and in interviews with women of different ages who have undergone one or more abortions during their lives. 

The project is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and the Ejnar and Aase Danielsen Foundation. I am enrolled as a PhD student at the National Institute of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark, in the Social Health research group.
