Background in medical anthropology. Methodological competences primarily within ethno-graphic and qualitative research. In addition, experience with user involvement, evaluation and communication. Research focus areas centre on narratives and life stories; patient ex-periences; care; existential dilemmas; abortion, women’s health, reproduction.

I am currently working on a PhD project about induced abortion. Each year, approximately 15,000 Danish women undergo an induced abortion. However, abortion practices and experiences in Denmark remain largely unspoken, and research on the topic is limited. As a result, there is a lack of knowledge about how induced abortion is perceived at the societal level, practiced at the organizational level, and experienced at the individual level within a Danish context. This PhD project aims to address this knowledge gap by exploring Danish women's lived and embodied experiences of abortion at different stages of unwanted pregnancies, as well as the ways in which these experiences are embedded within Danish societal and healthcare contexts. The project employs a theoretical framework that conceptualizes narratives as a means of making sense of and structuring life at macro-, meso-, and micro levels. Methodologically, the study is ethnographic, incorporating document analysis, participant observation at two hospitals in the Capital Region of Denmark, and life-story interviews with women of different ages who have undergone one or more abortions throughout their lives. Developing a deeper understanding of Danish women’s abortion experiences and their broader context is important for ensuring appropriate information, care, and support for women seeking abortion. Moreover, this knowledge can contribute to informing clinical practice, policymaking, and education. The PhD project is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and the Aase & Ejnar Danielsen’s Foundation. I am enrolled as a PhD student at the National Institute of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark , in the research group ‘Social Health’.
