Ahead of the publishing of the Circular Economy Act, cities, regions and stakeholders in the waste and construction sector are calling for an increased focus and ambition for circular construction in the EU, to strengthen competitiveness, strategic autonomy and deliver EU climate targets.
On 24 June, initiators and signatories of the Call for Action come together with stakeholders from construction and demolition sector to discuss the potential of circular construction to deliver on competitiveness, climate and conservation of raw materials with EU decision-makers.
Where and when?
The conference takes place at the Committee of Regions, Room VMA21, on 24th of June 2026 at 9:30-12:00. Coffee and pastries will be served from 8:30, and the event is followed by a networking lunch until 13:00.

A European Call for Action on Circular Construction, by cities, regions and other stakeholders
The Call for Action on Circular Construction, launched by the Capital Region of Denmark together with Île-de-France, the Metropolitan Region of Amsterdam, the City of Vienna, the City of Copenhagen, as well as by ICLEI, urges the EU to preserve raw materials and strengthen secondary raw material markets by calling for EU actions within these four headlines:
- Focusing on reducing material and land consumption
- Creating market demand through public procurement
- Revising and harmonising end-of-waste criteria
- Supporting the competitiveness of secondary and biobased raw materials
The initiative is already supported by over 50 organisations, among them cities and regions representing over 50 million Europeans.
